Evaporated – Long-lasting love in immortality

We used to be like beautiful friends
Caught in daylight together like none of this love could ever end, oh…
Seems like a lifetime ago…
Watching the sun set, hand in hand
Looking out at the Milky Way after, Arching over the land…
So many light years away… Seems like a lifetime ago…

And it seems just like, that long-ago, gone, beautiful day
Like dust swallowed by brighter stars, simply assimilated
And I’m feeling like it’s all drifted away
Like the oceans on Mars, evaporated…

We’d make these plans like accomplices in beautiful crimes,
Swore we’d stay together through the darkest of times
Seems like a lifetime ago
Watching raindrops creeping
down the outside of our safe, street-lit window
Making stupid reckless bets as they swept and merged together on the sill below
Seems like a lifetime ago… Seems such a long time ago…

And it looks just like all our dreams are well and done
Like a thinning mirage, nothing but fading fantasies
And I’m breathing like my breath is all gone
In this diluting collage, of my fading memories

We were the King and Queen of our continent
Folk would sing and dance beside us, wherever we went…
Seems like centuries ago, now
We’d spend our winters in the Gardens of Babylon,
Make sweet love in our palace in Avalon, more than a thousand years ago… So many lifetimes ago…

And it looks just like all our dreams are well and done
Like a thinning mirage, nothing but fading fantasies
And I’m breathing like my breath is all gone
In this diluting collage, of my fading memories

And it seems just like, that long-ago, gone, beautiful day
Like dust swallowed by brighter stars, simply assimilated
And I’m feeling like it’s all drifted away
Like the oceans on Mars, evaporated…
