My Father was an inventive man
His greatest love, was working with his hands
Could've been a leader but his rivals didn't grieve
When they shot his Daddy dead, it was time for him to leave
His youth was stained by the colour of his skin
Life was scarred by being forced to give in to the
Great White Way that ruled his age
Frustrated his ambition and fuelled his rage

My mother was deep and wise
She made me see that the biggest prize is
Knowing how to live day to day and
How to give, not just take away
She taught me to face up to limitation
How to grow, how to feed on discrimination
I'm so grateful for all the things they brought me
All the skills they taught me and every time they fought me

Now my father told me that since the Dawn of Man-times
All of my ancestors watching all of my crimes, but
